Head Coach
M.L. is back for his third year as a head coaching the Piedmont League. He is in his first year as an assistant coach at Randolph-Macon, where he works with the outfielders, base runners, and bunters. He also assists with recruiting and hitting instruction. Morgan joined R-MC after four years on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University. Morgan's primary responsibilities at VCU were coaching the outfielders, coaching the bunt game, serving as first base coach, and coordinating all Rams Baseball Camps.
During Morgan's tenure at VCU, the Rams were ranked in the Top 25 (2014 & 2015), won the Atlantic 10 conference tournament (2015), won a Regional Championship (2015), had a Super Regional Appearance (2015), and won the Atlantic 10 regular season championship (2017). The Rams won 35 or more games in each season during his tenure. A feat that less than 20 teams in the country accomplished over that timeframe.
During his time at VCU, Morgan coached 9 players who signed professional contracts, 2 Atlantic 10 Rookie of The Years, and 1 Atlantic 10 Player of The Year.
Prior to VCU, Morgan served as the Assistant Director of Compliance and Director of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at Old Dominion University. Morgan's first post-college stop was at the Colonial Athletic Association as the Compliance and Administration Intern.
The Dinwiddle, Va. native earned his Bachelor's of Science in Accounting from VCU in 2010. A member of the baseball team, Morgan was part of two conference championships and two NCAA regional appearances as an outfielder for the Rams. Morgan received his Master's of Education in Sports Leadership from VCU in 2014.
He resides in Richmond with his wife, Sernarra Archie, who was a track athlete at VCU.
